Please join the MCBA in its partnership and sponsorship of this year's Juneteenth program, entitled "Black Wealth, Black Power: Putting Ourselves in Charge of Ourselves."  The program will focus on the history of Garveyism in Indiana and its significance during the 1920s through the 1950s.  The program will include a short film about Marcus Garvey.  There is a legal component to the life of Marcus Garvey.  In 1923, Garvey was tried and convicted for a variety of crimes while attempting to elevate Black socialism and financial independence.  After appeals, the United States Supreme Court affirmed his conviction.  In 2024, President Joe Biden pardoned him posthumously.
